James E. Jenkins

James Elva Jenkins "JJ", 92 passed away on November 15, 2025.  James was born on September 10, 1933in LeFlore County, Mississippi to John and Dosie Mae Jenkins. He was the oldest of 11 children.  James began working on the farm in the Delta with his dad in the early years of his life. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1956 in the Korean War.  After the Army he became an electrician.  He married Mickey Brumfield and they have been together for over 60 years.  He was a 32nd degree Mason.  He joined the Wahabi Shriner in 1973.  He was very involved and served in many capacities.  He was Captain of the Color Guard for 3 terms, Captain of the Drum Corps multiple times over the years.  He was the Shriner UAA Food chairman for the food tent at the Mississippi State Fair for several years. He was elected to the highest position of Potentate of the Wahabi Shrine in 2006.  He served the President of Clinton Shrine Club for many years.  His most cherished position was the years he served as Chairman of Transportation for the Shrine children.  He got much satisfaction and joy transporting the children with burn and orthopedic needs to Galveston, TX, Houston, Tx, and Shreveport, LA.  He would transport the children to their clinic appointments and for hospital procedures.  He and Mickey traveled extensively over the United States with the Shriners.  

He was a "Jack of all trades', enjoyed fishing and watching Saints Football. He was a lifelong true fan until the end. He always had a bountiful garden full of fresh vegetables.  He had a large family and enjoyed all the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  

James is preceded in death by his parents, John and Dosie Mae; his brothers, John, Lewis, Melvin, Bill, and a son Rickey Jenkins.

He is survived by his wife, Mickey of Byram, MS; children, Mike (Ellen) of Brandon, MS, Bobby (Marilyn) of San Diego, CA, Julie (James) Orgeron of Terry, MS, and Darryl of Clinton, MS.  He leaves behind his siblings, Bobby(Carol) Jenkins of Benoit, MS, Paul Jenkins of Grenada, MS, George (Becky) Jenkins of Flora, MS, Louise Woods of Greenwood, MS, Delilah Long of Florence, MS, Patricia (Vince) Cadotte of Pelahatchie, MS, and sister in law, Mary Brumfield of Moss Point, MS.  Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews were impacted by having James in their lives. 

In lieu of flowers the family would request memorials be made to the Wahabi Shrine for Children at  wahabishriners.org.

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 12-1pm with a Memorial service beginning at 1pm at Country Woods Baptist Church in Byram.
