Lieutenant Jack Edward Daugherty USN (R), a devoted husband of 57 years, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud Vietnam Veteran, has departed this world on his final voyage, on the morning of June 1, 2025, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson MS. He was born in Oneida TN, on January 20, 1947. He lived a life marked by a deep devotion to his faith, his dedication to his family, and service to his country. Jack was a graduate from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s Degree with further education at the University of Mississippi earning his Master’s Degree he has authored and co-authored many books throughout his adult life.

Jack Enlisted in the United States Navy after graduating high school in 1963, he attended Naval Boot Camp at Great Lakes Naval Station, in Chicago, IL. He was accepted into the Navy program that allowed him to gain his college degree while commissioning upon graduation to the rank of Ensign. Jack served aboard the USS Lawrence DDG-4 as the Weapon/Missile Officer during Vietnam and earned his Combat Action Ribbon, The National Defense Service Medal, The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Oak Leaf, and The Meritorious Unit Citation. Jack achieved the rank of Lieutenant and had many assignments with his final one being on the Sixth Fleet Commodore’s Staff at Little Creek VA. Jack was Honorably Discharged in 1977 after 14 years of honorable and faithful service.

After Jack’s Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy he embarked on a new adventure with his family as an Environmental Safety Hygienist and begun his life’s work of ensuring that industries became and remained compliant with EPA and OSHA regulations, and guidelines. At this time in his life is when he put his avid love for reading and writing to use when he published his first of many books. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, rugby, meeting new members of the family, and hobbies that allowed him to further strengthen his relationship with God.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Carolyn Daugherty, His Son Scott Daugherty, His Grandchildren Joshua Mabus, his wife Alicia Mabus, Zachery Mabus, and Andrew Mabus, His Great-grandchildren Ryleigh-Jeaux Mabus, Chance Mabus, and Severin Mabus. 

Jack is preceded by his parents, his daughter Rayne Daugherty, and seven siblings.

Jack has left a legacy of integrity through devotion to his faith, love for his family and dedication to his country for those that were fortunate to have known him. The family will receive relatives and friends for visitation on Friday 6 June 2025 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram MS. A final visitation will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025, starting at 9 am prior to the service at St Johns Catholic Church in Crystal Springs MS at 10:30 am.  Burial will follow at Rosemont Gardens Memorial Park at 3935 I-5 South in Jackson, MS.
