Hollis Ray “Jack” Broome, 90, passed from this life August 19, 2023. Services will be held at First Baptist Church Terry, on Tuesday, August 22nd with visitation starting at 9:00am and will continue until the hour of service at 11:00 am.
Jack was born on October 8, 1932, in Bassfield, MS, he was the son of Wyatt and Evie Anderson Broome. He graduated from Bassfield High School and attended Hinds Junior College.
A veteran, Jack served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon being honorably discharged, he moved to Jackson where he met his future wife, Laverna Linton. They married in 1955 and celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in December of 2022. God blessed them with a son and daughter.
Jack retired at the age of 62 with 38 years of service at Sperry Vickers. After his retirement, Jack returned to the work force where he served part time for the next 22 years at Automotive Color. He concluded his working career at the age of 84.
Upon moving to Terry, the Broomes joined and became active members of First Baptist Church of Terry, where Jack served as an usher. In 1985 Jack joined the Terry Lion’s Club. At the time of his death, Jack was the longest continuously serving member of that service organization.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Agnes; and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife, Laverna; son, Doug Broome (Gwenette) of Natchez; and daughter, Debby McDonald (Mike) of Terry. He also leaves behind his brother, Wyatt Broome of San Antonio, TX. Additional survivors include 4 grandchildren: Joshua McDonald (Jami), Matthew McDonald (Holly), Natalie Williams (Kyle), and Bradley Broome (Anna); and 6 great grandchildren, Haylee, Jenna, James Levi, Andrew, Liam, and Pete.
