Henry Gerald “Bubba” Ashley, 53, passed away on September 27, 2026, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, surrounded by his family and friends. Everyone who knew him affectionately called him “Bubba.”
Bubba was born on October 30, 1972, in Jackson, Mississippi. He attended Richland High School, where he played both football and baseball.
Bubba was a hardworking man who spent his life working with his hands. By trade, he was a carpenter and was truly a jack of all trades. He had a natural talent for building, fixing, and creating things and could take on just about any project. He especially enjoyed building birdhouses, swings, and other things that allowed him to put his skills and creativity to work.
Outside of work, Bubba enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, going fishing, and making memories with the people around him. He also enjoyed taking cruises. During one of his first cruises, he discovered a particular love for ice cream, and the all-you-can-eat ice cream quickly became one of his favorite parts of cruising.
Bubba is survived by his son, Blake Ashley; his sister, Paige Shurlds; his mother, Emma Ashley; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Gerald Ashley, and his brother, Billy Pickell.
In Bubba’s final moments, his son made the decision to honor his life through organ donation. His kidneys were donated and a recipient was quickly identified as a match. Through this selfless gift, a part of Bubba will continue to live on, giving another person the opportunity for more time, more memories, and more life.
