Helen Ragus Hinson, 80, of Byram, MS passed away peacefully on August 2nd in her home surrounded by her family.
Helen was born in Pioneer, Louisiana and spent most of her life in Natchez, MS. Helen married Natchez native, Carl Hinson and together they had four children. She retired from Natchez Regional Hospital and soon after moved to the Jackson metro area to be closer to daughters, Tammy and Dawn. She was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Byram and made great friends, there. Helen loved history and was an avid reader of historical biographies among other interests, including spoiling her daughter’s pets, especially “Tinker Bell”.
Helen’s penmanship was notable, earning her part-time jobs as a teenager scribing for members of the Daughters of the American Revolution and answering fan mail for Miss USA, Linda Lee Meade.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and one sister. Helen is survived by her children, Tammy Taylor, Todd (Su) Hinson, Chase (Leslie) Hinson and Dawn “Dee Dee” Moran; her grandchildren Paige Taylor, Jordan Taylor, John Hinson, Reagan (Spencer) Smith, Allen (Catherine) Hinson, and William Hinson; and great grandson, Tatum Smith.
In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to Children’s Hospital, Jackson, MS. Services will be held on August 8th at 11:00am with visitation starting at 10:00am at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram with interment to follow at 2:00pm at Greenlawn Cemetery in Natchez.
We want to thank first and most of all, God, for allowing us to have been blessed by such a wonderful and loving mother for almost eighty-one years and that He allowed her to pass peacefully at home surrounded by family. We also thank the many friends from Hillcrest Baptist Church that showed great love, care, and compassion for our mother. We also thank her medical team for their care and support during her final journey.
