Obituary

Hardie Rogers “Buddy” Hays, III, 75, passed away peacefully at his home on September 16, 2026, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on June 13, 1951, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Hardie R. Hays, Jr. and Doris Applewhite Hays.

Buddy retired following a long and successful career as a salesman for US Foods. He was well regarded by his coworkers and customers, who appreciated his professionalism, genuine personality, and the relationships he built throughout his career.

While Buddy accomplished many things during his life, he considered his greatest accomplishment to be his relationship with Christ. His faith was at the center of his life, and he was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Jackson. His relationship with the Lord was more important to him than any professional achievement or personal accomplishment.

Buddy had an adventurous spirit and lived life to the fullest. His hobbies reflected his willingness to try new things and embrace adventure. He enjoyed horseback riding, skydiving, snow skiing, and scuba diving. His sense of adventure also led him to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and explore caves. He enjoyed the quieter side of life as well, finding peace and relaxation in fishing. He also had an interest in martial arts.

Above all, Buddy was a proud father who adored his children. He treasured time spent with his family, and his children and grandchildren meant the world to him. The memories made with those he loved were among his greatest treasures.

Buddy was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by daughters, Stephanie Kimberlie Hays and Hannah Maple Hays, and his son, Hardie “Joshua” Hays, IV (Amberly). He leaves behind his three cherished grandchildren, Andie Grace, Hardie V, and Caroline, who brought tremendous joy and meaning to his life. He is also survived by his siblings, Dianne McRae (John) of Maryville, Tennessee; Nancy Bridges of Ridgeland, Mississippi; Deborah Bryant (Phil) of Hazlehurst, Mississippi; and John Hays (Lisa) of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Buddy will be remembered for his strong faith, adventurous spirit, love of family, and the relationships he built throughout his life. He approached life with courage and enthusiasm, whether exploring a cave, riding his motorcycle, enjoying the outdoors, or simply spending time with the people he loved.

His greatest legacy, however, will be the faith he held so dearly and the love he gave to his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace with the Savior he loved and served.
