Grady Asa Porch, born September 23, 1930, in Bentonia, Mississippi, passed away on October 9, 2026.
Mr. Porch lived a long life marked by service, faith, and a deep love for the outdoors. He served in the United States Air Force, and that spirit of duty continued throughout his civilian life. He devoted more than 40 years to the City of Jackson Fire Department, beginning his career in 1951 and serving until his retirement in 1994. During those many years, he rose to the position of Deputy Chief and Master Mechanic. He was known by his call name, FD-9, and his long career reflected commitment, skill, and steadfast dedication to his community.
Outside of his work, Grady found joy in the simple and enduring pleasures of life. He loved hunting, fishing, and was a longtime member of the Yucatan Hunting Club. He loved being out in nature, especially on his tractor, always finding something to do. Those who knew him will remember a man who valued hard work, the outdoors, and the time spent with family.
His faith was an important part of his life. He was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church and had attended Riverwood Bible Church in recent years with his family.
Grady is survived by his daughter, Martha Porch Walters Huggart. He also leaves behind a loving family that includes his grandchildren, Tiffani Bishop and her husband Chris, Robert Walters and his wife Christie, Mary Gaudet, Shawna Whitaker and her husband Travis, and Joshua Huggart. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Tori Walters, Lauryl Dyess and her husband Josh, Emma Walters, Arli Walters, Kara Bishop DeBoard and her husband Mason, Connor Bishop and his wife Kierra, and Brady Walters. His family circle also includes his great-great-grandson, Graham DeBoard, and his sister-in-law, Pat Porch. May their many memories of Grady bring comfort and peace in the days ahead.
