Gertude Bray Wilbourn

Mrs. Gertrude Bray Wilbourn went home to be with the Lord, January 30. 2023.  She was 92 years old.  Born to Edgar Bray, Sr and Bevis Thigpen in Houlka, MS.  Mrs. Gertrude was a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and worked 36 years for South Central Bell.  She and her husband of 62 years, Hershel Wilbourn, lived in South Jackson until 2009, when they made the move to Byram.  They had one son, James Wilbourn.  She was a longtime member of McDowell Road Baptist Church and in recent years, Raymond Road Baptist Church.

Mrs. Gertrude is preceded in death by her parents, Mr and Mrs Bray,her husband, Hershel Wilbourn, a brother, Edgar Bray, Jr, a sister, Ruby Knight, and a nephew Steve Bray.

She is survived by her son, James “Hal” (Robin) Wilbourn of Terry, a grandson, Evins (Nikki) Wilbourn, a sister, Frances Rice of Texas, and a sister-in-law, Norma Jean Bray of Raymond.  Along with those are many nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends and loved ones for visitation at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram on Wednesday at 5:00 – 8:00 pm and a second visitation will be held Thursday from 10:00 am until the hour of service at 11:00 am which will be held in the Chapel at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram.  Interment will follow the service at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.

The family would like to extend their love and heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Edgewood Nursing and Rehab and PAX Hospice for all their loving compassion and care for Mrs. Gertrude.
