Etna Jean Saxton passed away on October 16, 2026, at the age of 89. She was born on April 2, 1937, in Homewood, Mississippi, and was raised in Forest, Mississippi. In 2000, she made her home in the Brandon area, where she was a member of Walker Hill Baptist Church in Brandon, Mississippi.
Mrs. Saxton was a high school graduate who worked as an accountant. She will be remembered for the simple joys that meant so much to her: spending time with her family, watching and supporting her great grandchildren play sports—especially football games—and enjoying old westerns. She also loved being outside and spending time in her yard, a place that reflected her care and steady presence.
Her family was at the heart of her life. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Bruce and her husband Hap of Brandon, and Paige Everett of Pearl; her sons, Kenny Vandevender and his wife Sue of Flora, and Steve Vandevender and his wife Janell of Raymond; her sister, Mechelle Brewer and her husband Glen of Pisgah; her brother, Travis Greene of Morton; and her seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren
Etna was preceded in death by her father, Denard Greene; her mother, Erma Greene; her grandson, Joseph Vandevender and her brother, Glovis Greene. Their memories remained a lasting part of her life and the family she cherished so deeply.
Visitation will be held on October 20, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home Florence, 2576 US 49, Florence, Mississippi 39073. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home Florence. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m. at New Good Hope Church Road, New Good Hope Church Rd, Pulaski, Mississippi 39152.
She will be remembered with love for her devotion to family, her enjoyment of life’s familiar pleasures, and the warmth she brought to those around her. Her memory will continue to live on in the lives of all who knew and loved her.
