Emma Jean Pittman, known affectionately as Jeannie, was born on August 19, 1946, in Ft. Benning, Columbus, Georgia, and passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her beloved family. She was the cherished daughter of the late James Tillman and Ruth Yancey Johns, and sister to the late Dudley Johns and Janice Coutch.
Jeannie was a devoted wife to her husband of 61 years, Bill Pittman. Together they shared a loving partnership, creating a warm and nurturing home for their family. Jeannie was a proud mother to her two children, Jennifer Pittman James and William Pittman, as well as a beloved daughter-in-law to Dusty Pittman. She treasured the time spent with her three grandchildren—Trey James, 27, Madelyn James, 26, and Rustin Pittman, 19—who were her pride and joy.
Throughout her life, Jeannie was deeply committed to her community in Florence and Star, contributing her time and talents through various civic clubs and her church, Wesleyanna United Methodist Church. Her dedication to her community was recognized on her birthday when she received a proclamation from the city of Florence, honoring her remarkable contributions and service. She loved to travel and was always the first to say “Lets Go”.
Jeannie cultivated many friendships during her lifetime, cherishing the precious moments shared with those she loved. She is also remembered fondly by her surviving sister, Ann White, as well as her sisters-in-law Mary Ruth McFarland, Pat Polk and husband Rudy, and brothers-in-law Ervin Bridges and Stan Wedel. Additionally, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, and great great nephews, all of whom will hold her memory dearly in their hearts.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Emma Jean Pittman will be held on October 4, 2025, at Wesleyanna United Methodist Church in Florence, Mississippi, starting at 11:00 AM, concluding at 12:00 PM. This gathering will provide family and friends an opportunity to come together, celebrate her remarkable life, and share fond memories of a woman whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of so many.
The family would like to thank Arden Home Health and Hospice for helping to Fullfil Jeannie’s final wish to pass at home with her family.
In honor of Jeannie"s vibrant spirit, the family kindly requests guests wear colorful attire to the celebration of life.
