Eliza Ann Westerfield passed away February 5, 2022 in Richland, MS at the age of 72. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, February 9th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one-hour prior to the service, all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson. Eliza grew up in Jackson and graduated from Central High School. She attended Hinds Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi where she received a BS in history and education and a master of education. She began her career as a substitute teacher followed by teaching history, government and economics at Lanier High School and then Jim Hill High School for 35 years. She was a nationally certified teacher in economics and government and was one of the first teachers to complete the Mississippi Master Teacher in Economics program. She received congressional recognition for service to the community, was the Mississippi Economics Teacher of the Year and an Outstanding Young Woman in America. She was recognized for her involvement with international education and economic development. Eliza was a member of First Baptist Church of Richland. She previously was a member of First Baptist Church Jackson where she served as a Sunday School teacher, worked on mission teams, and volunteered with Chinese ministries. She is survived by cousins, Debbie Westerfield Christie of Jackson and Robin Westerfield of Fort Worth, TX; sister-in-law Cheryl Westerfield of Fuquay Varina, NC; and additional cousins and extended family. Eliza was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin C. and Gertrude G. Westerfield, brothers Bobby Westerfield and Rev. David E. Westerfield, and sister-in-law Judy S. Westerfield.
