Julia Edwina Knight Galyean never met a stranger, had an endless supply of hugs, lipstick kisses and smiles for those she loved and never let anyone leave without an “I love you, Sweetheart!”. After bravely battling breast cancer for 10 years, she passed away in her home on Wednesday, February 17, surrounded by family and her faithful dog, Dooley. She was born August 8, 1949, in Canton, MS, graduated from Madison-Ridgeland High School and had a successful career in insurance for many years. After living in Florida and then Texas for many years, she returned home to Mississippi in 2007. She leaves behind her siblings, Charles Knight (Linda) abd Patricia Griffin (Bill); her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; her stepson, Eric Galyean; and her dog, Dooley who was her constant companion for 10 years. She is preceded in death by her husband Lee Galyean, her parents Charles and Julia Knight, and her sister Catherine Knight Baber. Though she had no children of her own, she cared for each of her nieces and nephews, as well as their children, as if they were hers. She was a stand in Mom and Grandmother and a sister to more than just her siblings, with lifelong friends to testify. Visitation will be Friday, February 26, 2021 at Hickory Ridge Baptist Church in Florence, MS from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the church. A Graveside service will follow at Glenwood Memorial Park in Richland, MS weather permitting. Brad Griffin, Brandon Baber, John Middleton, Jeffrey Middleton, Steven Lofton, and Chad Brown will serve pallbearers. The family encourages all that attend to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Edwina asked that if you would like to make a donation to help fight Breast Cancer, please donate to The Baptist Health Foundation program called “Fund for the Girls” that helps women who are uninsured or under-insured get mammograms, ultrasounds and biopsies, if needed, at the Baptist Breast Center. There are NO administrative costs, and all funds go directly to the services provided to the patients. https://baptisthealth.foundation/how-we-help/fund-for-the-girls.
