Douglas Lee Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend, passed away on October 23, 2025, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. He was born on November 9, 1967, and grew up in the city of Clinton, Mississippi, dedicating his life to both his career and family.
For many years, Douglas worked as an Airspace Mechanic for Eaton Aerospace, where he was known for his diligence, skill, and expertise. His commitment to his work was only rivaled by his devotion to his family. Douglas cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren—they brought him immense joy and pride. He was affectionately remembered as his mother’s favorite boy, a testament to the bond he shared with her.
Douglas was known for his kind and welcoming nature, always making friends wherever he went. If he wasn’t joking around, it meant he didn’t quite like you—his humor and lightheartedness were part of what made him so special. He touched countless lives with his laughter, generosity, and the warmth of his spirit.
He had a deep love for the outdoors and found peace in nature. Among his hobbies, Douglas was an avid hunter and fisherman, always happiest when casting a line or spending quiet mornings in the woods. Those who shared those moments with him will forever remember his patience, his laughter, and his joy in simple things.
Douglas was deeply loved by all who knew him. His kindness, strength, and sense of humor left a lasting impact on everyone whose lives he touched.
Douglas is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Heidi Smith; his children: Steven (Samantha) Smith, Zackery (Haley) Chastain, Lauren (Gabrielle) Smith, Bailey Chastain, and Macey (Nicholas) Pederson, and his cherished grandchildren: Naomi, Jacob, Payden, Gracelyn, Maelyn, Kairi, Lincoln, London, and Jax. He is also survived by his mother, Beatrice "Bea" Ivy Smith; brother, Rodney Smith; and sister, Alison McNair.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee Smith, and sister, Donna Smith.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on October 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Hickory Ridge Baptist Church, located at 319 Hickory Ridge Rd, Florence, MS. Burial will take place at Glenwood Memorial Park in Richland following the service.
Douglas Lee Smith will be deeply missed, but his legacy and the love he shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His laughter, stories, and the warmth he brought into the world will never be forgotten.
