Emblem

David Russell Peacock arrived in heaven on January 13, 2026. Born to Willie Eric and Bertha Mae Webb Peacock and raised in Benson, N.C. After graduating from Meadow High School, he attended North Carolina State University, Cameron College, and University of Oklahoma, Officer Candidate School and Command and General Staff College (US Army). After joining the US Army, he married Mary Lois Wallace and had 2 daughters, Mary Michelle and Stacie Lynn. His military career led him to Germany twice, Jackson MS, Fort Benning, GA, Fort Sill, OK, Fort Leavenworth Kansas, and St. Paul, MN. He served two tours in Vietnam, with the 1st Air Cavalry Division and 108th Artillery Group. Among his many military metals, the one he prized most was the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, awarded for serving in Vietnam. After 21 yrs of service, he retired to be close to his wife’s family in Florence, MS. He established 3 additional careers, including financial services.

Through his work and throughout his life, he was always serving others. He was an active part of the community and a member of Marvin United Methodist Church and held many leadership positions in the church and taught adult Sunday School classes for over 30 years. He loved “digging in the dirt”, returning to his family roots of farming, which included directing his beloved family members on how to tend his prolific vegetable gardens and fruit trees.

Preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Bertha Peacock, and his brothers, Valton Peacock, Dallas (Bear) Peacock, Sherrill Peacock, Ray Peacock, and his sister, Zylphia Catholine Price. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lois Peacock, two daughters, Mary Michelle Scott and Stacie Peacock Shepherd, and his two brothers, W. Gordon Peacock, and J. Larry Peacock. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher Holley (Kendall), Trevor Scott (Sarah), David Scott (Grace), Duncan Shepherd and Skye Shepherd, and his great grandchildren, Ethan Holley, Colton Holley, Aurora Scott, and Emmett Scott. Beloved by all nieces and nephews and he loved each one dearly.
