On Easter morning, Cynthia Lee Steen found rest and reunited with her daughter after a hard-fought battle with cancer at her home in Diamondhead, MS.
Cynthia was born to Frances Quay and Jimmie Hiatt November 7, 1959, in Jackson, MS, where she grew up with her older sisters, Ann and Alice. Cynthia is remembered by her family as being fun-loving and free-spirited.
On August 21, 1985, Cynthia married her best friend and soulmate, Jerry Steen, and together they raised their two children, Jason and Brittany. This August would have been their 40th anniversary.
Cynthia chose careers where she could serve her community, such as healthcare, postal services, and the police station. In 2010, Cynthia turned her focus to her family and home. She took care of her family and friends with a huge heart and smile.
Cynthia enjoyed her flower gardens, NASCAR, collecting teddy bears, and just having fun. She kept busy with friends and family, who wanted to note her favorite NASCAR drivers were Kyle Larson and Joey Logano.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frances Quay and Jimmie Elwood Hiatt, and her daughter, Brittany Nicole Steen. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Steen; son, Jason Steen; sisters, Ann Morris and Alice Dyer; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services to celebrate her life will be held at Mount Creek Cemetery in Florence, MS on Thursday, April 24 at 11am.
