Cynthia Gay Lea, affectionately known as Cindy, passed away on May 19, 2026, in Terry, Mississippi. Born on July 18, 1963, in Jackson, Mississippi, to William Howard Lea, Jr and Laverne Rogers Woods,
Cindy was a woman who treasured her family above all else. She adored her grandchildren, whom she delighted in capturing precious moments through her photography. Her love extended to her faithful dog, Reba, who was a constant companion on her long walks—one of her favorite pastimes. In addition to her enjoyment of walking, she was also a passionate crocheter, spending countless hours creating beautiful crafts. She loved watching baseball games.
Cindy enjoyed a career in banking and was with Trustmark for many years. She was a devoted employee and formed many friendships over the years.
She leaves behind a devoted family that reflects the strength of her bonds. Her daughter, Brittney Atkinson (Irby) of Theresa, Wisconsin, and her son, Erick Hatch (Tyla) of Pearl, Mississippi, mourn her loss alongside ten beloved grandchildren: Angel Renfroe, Cody Renfroe, Ethan Renfroe, Jarod Shaffer, Preston Renfroe, Joey Hatch, Zoey Atkinson, Josiah Renfroe, Jubilee Riego, and Reed Atkinson. Cindy’s presence and nurturing spirit will be deeply missed by her father, Howard Lea of Byram, Mississippi, and her mother, Laverne Woods of Burnsville, Mississippi. She also leaves behind two sisters, Mechelle Perry (Kenneth) of Booneville, Mississippi, and Sonja Myers (Jeff) of Florence, Mississippi, as well as two brothers, Bryan Lea (Beth Goodwin) of Byram, Mississippi, and Mike Lea (Kathryn) of Kentucky.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her grandparents William Howard Lea, Sr. and Ella Marie Lea, as well as BB Rogers and Lula Bell Rogers. Their memory and heritage lived on in her and all who knew her.
Cindy’s radiant personality and loving nature touched the lives of many. Her dedication to family and the tender care she showed are lasting impressions that will continue to inspire and comfort those she has left behind. Her journey may have ended too soon, but the love Cynthia Gay Lea nurtured will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
