Obituary

Claudia Tisdale, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, in Clinton, Mississippi, at the age of 95. Born on July 31, 1930, in Walnut Grove, Mississippi, Claudia was a radiant presence in the lives of those who knew her, marked by her kindness and welcoming spirit.

Claudia dedicated twenty remarkable years as an executive assistant to J W Underwood Home Builders, where her organizational skills and creativity shone brightly. Her talents extended beyond the office; she was instrumental in naming all the streets in the Crossgates Subdivision in Brandon, MS, leaving a lasting mark on her community. In a true testament to her adventurous spirit, Claudia stepped out of her comfort zone to establish Claudia's Fabrics on Raymond Road, a cherished business she ran from 1976 to 1996. There, she offered high-end fashion fabrics, helping countless individuals realize their dreams for proms, weddings, and special occasions.

Claudia's zest for life was epitomized by her love for skiing. She skied with the Jackson Ski Club and had the exhilarating experience of skiing from Centennial Lake to the mighty Mississippi River Bridge in Vicksburg. Among the first to ski in the Ross Barnett Reservoir, Claudia embraced every opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors.

Her personality was characterized by warmth and generosity, which made her home a gathering place for family and friends, especially during the Christmas season. Claudia would open her doors wide, inviting not only her loved ones but also those without families to share in the festivities. Her legacy of love and inclusivity will forever be ingrained in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

As the proud mother of Teresa Gardner and Carol Faye Tisdale, and the matriarch of her family, Claudia cherished her granddaughter, Amy (Bobby Joe) Dickerson; her great-grandchildren, Aaron Dickerson (Racheal), Crystal Gagneaux (Zach), and Steven Colson (Maggie); as well as her great-great-grandchildren, who were the light of her later years. Claudia was also the last of five generations of her family, a testament to her enduring spirit and familial bond.

Claudia’s contributions to her community were noteworthy; she was a founding member of the South Jackson Civic League, dedicating her life to service and improvement of her surroundings.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Tisdale, who shared in her joys and dreams; her father, W.M. "Cat" Whatley; her mother, Lona Harkey Whatley; sister, Tommye Troutman; brother, Harry Whatley; and granddaughter, Taylor Gagneaux.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Joe Dickerson, Mike Mayfield, Bill Whatley, David Williams, and Josh Gagneaux. Honorary Pallbearer will be Alex Borromeo.

Claudia Tisdale's legacy is one of love, generosity, and community spirit, significantly impacting the lives of those she touched. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Visitation will take place on February 17, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Chancellor Funeral Home Byram Location, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, culminating in a burial at Fuston Cemetery Association at 1:30 PM.
