Cheryl Neely, born Cheryl Thornhill on September 27, 1949, in Pearl, MS, passed away on March 27, 2024, at MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. She was a beloved mother and grandmother as well as a dedicated nurse, and cherished friend to many.
Cheryl's dedication to the nursing profession spanned an impressive 47 years. She began her career as a registered nurse at Hinds General Hospital, where she served diligently for over 25 years. She continued her nursing career for another 22 years working at other hospitals and was a travel nurse. She was known for her compassion, expertise, and unwavering commitment to caring for others.
A proud alumna of the Gilfoy School of Nursing, Cheryl was part of its last graduating class. Her passion for nursing shone through in all aspects of her work, touching the lives of countless patients and colleagues throughout her career.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Cheryl's true joy came from her family. She adored her son Jonathan Neely of Jackson and took great delight in spending time with her two grandsons, Tristan and Aidan Neely. Family meant everything to Cheryl.
In her leisure time, Cheryl found solace in travel and the companionship of her beloved dogs. She appreciated the beauty of exploring new places and the simple joys of spending moments with her faithful canine friends.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her father, J. D. Thornhill. She is survived by her loving mother, Betty Marie Thornhill of Raymond; her son Jonathan Neely; her brother Dick Thornhill; as well as her grandsons Tristan and Aidan Neely.
Cheryl Neely will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
