Charles Harold Dyess

 Charles Harold Dyess, born March 19, 1933 was known to most as Harold, Uncle Harold, or Papaw Harold.

He spent most of his working life as a supervisor at Mississippi Industries for the Blind; and made many life-long friends. Mr. Dyess until you got to know him, but from the start, you knew what you were getting – a man of integrity, of trustworthiness, of undying devotion to those who showed kindness. You’ve heard the phrase “you can do anything you set your mind to.” We all heard it from Harold and learned that from him it wasn’t just a phrase. It was a promise of support, of encouragement when needed, of stepping back when needed, and you knew when he said, “you can do it” he always meant “we can do it.” Able to fix just about anything mechanical, Harold could always be counted on to help anyone with any project; and, if he didn’t have the right tool, he would make one work.

Harold’s death January 8, 2024 will leave a void in many lives, but only for a moment. As the grief passes, we are left with his lessons, his joyful outlook, his focus on learning and improving so that life is better for those that come after.

He is preceded in death by wife, Helen J. Dyess; sisters Juanice Rankin, Maxie Grayson, Barney Deen.

He is survived by his stepson, Gil Bretheim (Pat); grandson, David Bretheim (Shelly); great granddaughters, Natalie and Danielle Bretheim; nieces, Liz Ohl and Brenda Carman; nephews, David Rankin, Pete Smith, and their families.
