Aubrey Wayne Morris, known to most simply as “Wayne,” passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 83 years old.

Wayne was born in Tate County, Mississippi, one of ten siblings in a hardworking and close-knit family. Raised under the steady hand of his father, a ranch manager, Wayne learned early the value of responsibility, faith, and dedication—qualities that would define his life.

While living in Belen, MS and attending Marks High School, Wayne met the love of his life, Elizabeth Elaine White. Her bright red hair and fiery spirit captivated him, and in June of 1961, they began a marriage that would last 59 devoted years until her passing in January 2022. Their Christ centered love was one of quiet strength and unwavering commitment—a bond that served as the foundation of their family.

Wayne was a loving and devoted father to two children. His daughter, Leigh Ann, remembers the joy of playing in the yard with her daddy after long workdays and the lesson-filled moment he greeted her at the door after the one and only time she skipped school. She was by his side for his final breath, telling him it was time to go home and be with Momma.

His son, Christopher Wayne Morris, shared a special bond with Wayne as “Daddy’s buddy.” Wayne cherished every moment of Chris’s childhood and remained a steady source of wisdom and love throughout his life. Chris also stood beside his father in his final moments, sending him off with love and the comforting words, “Until we meet again, fly to the arms of Jesus.”

Wayne found his greatest joy in being “Granddaddy” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known by many as “The Baby Whisperer,” his calming and affectionate presence brought comfort to all the little ones in his life.

Wayne devoted 42 years to Mississippi Valley Gas and later Atmos Energy, where he built many enduring friendships. A man of deep faith, Wayne was a longtime member of Siwell Road Church of Christ (formerly Belvedere Church of Christ), where he was actively involved and deeply loved by his church family. His walk with the Lord guided every step of his life.

Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth “Betty” Morris, his parents John and Florence Morris, sister Velma Traywick, and brother Wallace Eugene Morris.

He is survived by his daughter Leigh Ann Guest (Tommy) of Madison, MS; his son Chris Morris (Leigh Ellen) of Childersburg, AL; grandchildren Kyle Parker (Brittany), Seager Laine Morris, Christopher Finnegan Morris, Samuel Micajah Morris, and Evelyn Joy Morris; and great-grandchildren Olive Kate Parker, Aubrey Elaine Parker, and Eloise Aven Parker. He is also survived by sisters Sylvia Norris, Francis Parker, Betty Marsh; and brothers J.L. Morris, Douglas Morris, Lamar Morris, and Randy Morris.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 3:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS. A graveside service will follow on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Marks Cemetery in Marks, MS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Siwell Road Church of Christ in Wayne’s name.

Wayne leaves behind a legacy of faith, humility, and quiet strength. His was a life well-lived, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
