Anse Gerald McDonald, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected business owner, passed away on March 22, 2026, in his hometown of Terry, Mississippi. Born on January 26, 1951, to Samuel McDonald and Grace McDonald of Terry. Gerald lived a life deeply rooted in family, faith, and hard work, leaving behind a legacy cherished by all who knew him.
Known affectionately as "Papaw" by his family, Gerald treasured this role above all else. His life revolved around his children, grandchildren, and family, a testament to his unwavering devotion and love. By his Christian faith, he is now resting in the arms of Jesus.
Gerald was a hardworking man, owning and operating McDonald Sand & Gravel, that earned him the respect of many in this community. Known as "Boss Man" to his work family, he took great pride in his work, especially in operating his trackhoe. His work ethic left a lasting mark on those who worked alongside him.
Beyond his professional life, he was an avid fisherman and hunter, passions that allowed him to connect with nature and find joy in simple pleasures. He also enjoyed expressing his creative side through music, playing his guitar and singing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Laureen McDonald; his children, Amy McDonald Etheridge and Adam J. McDonald (Kelsey); and his cherished grandchildren, Ansley Etheridge, Kolden Etheridge, and Anna J.. McDonald. Together, they continue to carry forward his memory and the values he instilled.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Grace McDonald, and his sisters, Lanell Terry and Oreadus Walker.
Gerald’s life was one of steadfast commitment—to his family, his faith, and his work. His legacy is remembered with deepest respect, admiration, and love. He will be profoundly missed but forever remembered.
His services will begin with a visitation March 24, 2026, Tuesday evening, from 5pm-7pm and March 25th, Wednesday 9am-10am, with the service starting at 10am. All services and visitations will be held at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Following the service he will be interred at Terry City Cemetery.
