Obituary

Annie Lee Abernathy Walker, 95, went to her heavenly home to be with Jesus on July 14, 2026. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Annie Lee was born at home in the Simpson County community of Pinola, Mississippi, on February 11, 1931, to Tom Abernathy and Rosie Sullivan Abernathy. She graduated from Pinola High School in 1949, and on January 27, 1951, she married Cecil Preston Walker from Byram, Mississippi. They lived happily married for 58 years until Cecil's passing in 2009. Annie Lee and Cecil built a life together living in central Mississippi before establishing a home in Byram in the late 1950's. Together they raised three sons.

Annie Lee was very active at First Baptist Church of Byram. She made sure her family was in church to worship. She also taught Sunday School in the children's department for 43 years. Annie Lee loved the Lord and served him faithfully. Her life was dedicated to the Lord and her family. During her life she worked several jobs, but her most important job was a housewife and mother. Her greatest qualities were serving and always putting others first.

Annie Lee is survived by her sons Mike Walker and daughter-in-law Melitta of Terry, MS, Tommy Walker and daughter-in-law Robin of Raymond, MS; grandchildren Mandy Tuttle (Andy) of Raeford, NC, Tabitha McCoy (David) of Florence, MS, Luke Walker (Lindsey) of Florence, MS, Preston Walker (Irena) of Covington, LA, Drew Walker (Chelsea) of Brandon, MS, Matthew Walker (Mary) of Raymond, MS; and great-grandchildren Lydia McCoy, Hannah McCoy, Arya Walker, Lilah Walker, Quinn Walker, and Ellie Walker. She is also survived by her brothers Jimmy Abernathy (Mary Joyce) of Florence, MS, and Pat Abernathy of Wiggins, MS; sister Irene Abernathy Rogers of Wiggins, MS; and many nieces and nephews.

Annie Lee was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Preston Walker and her son Cecil Dwayne Walker, father Tom Abernathy, mother Rosie Sullivan Abernathy, brother J.T. (Bo) Abernathy, and sister Lynnie (Fettie) Bridges.

Annie Lee will be missed by family and friends, but we know she is in her eternal home in heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Baptist Church of Byram food pantry.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 18, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Byram at 1:00p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00p.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
