Anna Sue Sims

Anna “Sue” Miller Sims crossed over into her Heavenly home on Thursday, August 10, 2023. She was 84 years old. Aunt Sue was a resident of Pearl at the time of her passing. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Interment will follow at Harrisville Cemetery.

Sue was born on April 7, 1939, in Purvis, MS to the late Ruby Ann Miller and Gilbert Lavell Miller. Sue was a member of Southgate Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Purvis High School, class of 1957. She still loved getting together with her classmates for a monthly luncheon whenever she could attend. Sue was a graduate of Pearl River Jr. College, School of Cosmetology. She was a hairdresser in Jackson for over 15 years and a former owner of The Florence Beauty Shop and J & S Recreation Center, formerly Tall Man’s on Galatin St. She was also a graduate of Hinds Jr. College, School of Direct Care and Direct Care Supervisor class at MS State Hospital Whitfield, MS. She retired from MS State Hospital during her marriage to James. They were also employed for a number of years by Kerr Magee Oil Company. They managed the Trackside Service Station in Pearl, MS. They were both auction dealers in the Jackson area.

Sue is preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, James R. Sims of Harrisville, MS, sister Barbara Marie Bishop of Saraland, AL; and brother Joel Miller of New Augusta, MS. Sue is survived by her sister, Myrma Jean Fowler of Purvis, MS; 11 nephews; 4 nieces; and a number of great nieces and nephews. Several friends that lived in her apartment complex in Pearl, Mia, Virginia, and Jim, were like family.
