Amelia LaRue Powell

Amelia “LaRue” Powell went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at her home in Florence, MS. She was 84 years old. The family will receive friends and extended family for visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2024, with the funeral service starting at 2:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS.

LaRue was born on February 10, 1940, to Bruce and Eva McDonald in Collins, MS. She has lived in the Florence community for 52 years where she was a hairdresser for 12 years and was a member of Cleary Baptist Church. LaRue loved to paint, being in the outdoors and having family visits. She will truly be missed.

LaRue is preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Eva McDonald and son, Scott Powell. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John Powell of Florence; sons, John Powell Jr. (Connie) of Scottsboro, AL and Craig Powell of Florence; grandchildren, Rylee Powell and Paige Davis; and 2 great grandchildren.
