Altus Edwin “Ed” Myers, fondly known as “Snooky” to most, passed away on December 2, 2025, at the age of 81 in St. Francisville, LA.
Born on November 9, 1944, in Moorhead, Mississippi, to Velma and Otis Myers. He was the youngest of two boys.
Ed graduated from Central High School and, shortly after, proudly joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served for four years as a Jet Engine Mechanic. Being a Marine was one of the greatest honors of his life following his service,
Ed attended Mississippi College, earning his degree in Accounting. He later began his long career with the Mississippi State Tax Commission, where he served as Director for 30 years before retiring in 2001.
Ed faced cancer with extraordinary courage, overcoming two earlier diagnoses before his final battle with stage 4 esophageal cancer in 2025. His strength and determination were an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Despite every challenge, Ed lived with remarkable courage and an unwavering spirit. He loved spending time with his family and his two beloved dogs, Rocky and Molly. He was always the first to offer help, and if you needed something, he likely had it—and would gladly give it without hesitation. His big smile, tenacity for life, and willingness to go out of his way for others defined him. If something was broken, he could probably fix it.
Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Velma Myers, father, Otis Myers, and brother, Olis “Pete” Myers. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Ruth Myers; his son, Clay Chastain (Mila); son, Michael Chastain (Michelle); and daughter, Michelle Copeland (Jason). He leaves behind eight grandchildren—Jacob, Joshua, Jordan, Makenzie (Gavin), Addison, Parker, Cullen, and Beckett, and a soon-to-arrive great-grandchild, Delta Mae.
Ed will be remembered for his kindness, steadfast integrity, and profound love for his family. His smile and wisdom were gifts to all who knew him. His, was a life well lived.
