Alton Thomas Parker, affectionately known to his family and friends as “Al,” passed away on August 5, 2026, just two days shy of his 70th birthday. He was born on August 7, 1956, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, to Ray Thomas Parker and Easter Estelle Cooley Parker.

Al was a proud graduate of Pascagoula High School, where he enjoyed playing baseball. He continued his education at Mississippi State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Communications. His career brought him to Jackson, where he worked as a Network and Communications Technician at Millsaps College.

Al had many interests and talents throughout his life. He enjoyed playing guitar, singing, and writing music. Music was a meaningful part of who he was, and he found joy in expressing himself through both playing and songwriting.

Above all, Al loved his family. He treasured spending time with his children and creating memories with them. He was an avid New Orleans Saints fan and faithfully followed Mississippi State sports. A proud Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, Al carried with him the values of service, character, and leadership throughout his life.

Al was also well known for his grilling skills. Family and friends especially looked forward to his specialty—BBQ ribs—a talent that undoubtedly made many gatherings even more memorable.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Thomas Parker and Easter Estelle Cooley Parker, and his sister, Donna Parker McMahon.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gwen Parker; his three children, Jeremy Parker, Jordan Parker, and Alison King (Greg); and his extended family and many friends who will cherish the memories they made with him.

Al will be remembered for his love of family, his music, his passion for sports, his commitment to the values of Scouting, and the warmth and fellowship he brought to those around him. His memory will live on through his children and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
