Obituary

Born Althea LaVern Walker on November 11, 1945, to Frank M. Walker and Mildred L. Byrd Walker in the Clear Brance Community.

Nickie was a life long member of Clear Branch Baptist Church, where she served in the nursery and ran the church library until she was no longer able, then she became a greeter. She never met a stranger, making friends everywhere she went.

She met the love of her life in 1967, Glen Parish, and in January of 1968, they married. For 43 years, they built their lives in Florence, raising their two children. Nickie devoted her life to making a home for her family, along with helping “spoil” her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and most of the children in the community. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren play sports, along with watching her “beloved” New York Yankees play. When she was able, she would sneak away to “check the water lever” at the casino with her sister and cousin. Nickie was an inspiration and an example of goodness to her family and will be greatly missed.

Nickie is proceeded in death by her parents, Frank M. and Mildred; her husband Glen; and her brother, Joe Walker. She is survived by her children Lauri Brunson (Joey) and Walker Parish (Jennifer); grandchildren, Austin Brunson (Larami), Amanda Epperly (Christian), Stone Parish and Grey Parish; great-grandchildren; Waylon, Wayne, Lacey, Liam, Jaxon, and Carter; sister and best friend, Gennie Sumrall, sister-in-law, Sue Walker, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
