It is with profound sorrow and heartfelt reverence that we announce the passing of Alex Campbell Cooper III, a man whose life, was richly woven with kindness, devotion, and a spirited commitment to his community. Known affectionately by those close to him as “Buddy,” he entered this world on April 6, 1949, in Jackson, Mississippi, where fate destined that his journey would both begin and conclude.
Alex’s humble yet impactful career as a School Bus Driver for the Rankin County School District was a testament to his dedication and sense of responsibility. Every day, he took upon himself the vital role of safeguarding and nurturing the welfare of countless children—those same young lives he held so tenderly in his heart. His love for children extended well beyond his occupation; he was an emblem of the holiday spirit, embodying the magic of Santa Claus for many years. Through this cherished role and his heartfelt participation in charities such as Harbor Day School and the Marine Corps Toys for Tots, Alex championed the cause of the sick and needy children in his community, always driven by a compassion that knew no bounds.
His personality was the very embodiment of warmth and gentleness—a loving, kind soul whose presence was a balm to all who knew him. The depth of his affection was reflected not only in his charitable endeavors but also in the strong bonds he nurtured within his family.
Alex was born to Alex Campbell Cooper, Jr. and Esther Jones Cooper, now departed, yet their memory endures in the legacy of love they imparted. He leaves behind a devoted constellation of loved ones who carry forward his spirit and values: his sons Gabe (Lauren) Cooper, Jake (Savannah) Cooper, Corey (Savannah) Burgess, and Ben (Cecily) Burgess; his grandchildren Max Burgess, Lily Burgess, Miles Cooper, Remington Cooper, and Rivers Cooper; and his sister, Louise Jones. To them, and to all whose lives were graced by his presence, he remains a beacon of inspiration and tenderness.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on May 23, 2026, from 11:00 AM until noon at the First Baptist Church of Florence, located at 102 E Main St, Florence, Mississippi. This joyous occasion will provide an opportunity for friends, family, and community members to come together to commemorate and pay tribute to the life of a man whose kindness and dedication left an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to know him.
Though Alex’s time with us was fleeting, his love and legacy endure, a testament to a life lived with purpose, compassion, and unwavering devotion to the children and community he so deeply cherished. He will forever be remembered as a loving guardian, a selfless giver, and a true embodiment of the spirit of kindness.
