Mr. William "Bill" Judson Brooks Jr.

January 6, 1950 — October 5, 2021

William J “Bill “ Brooks Jr passed from this earth to his Heavenly home on Tuesday Oct, 5 2021. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence MS. Visitation will begin Wednesday Oct 6 from 5:00 -8:00 pm. Funeral services will be on Thursday Oct 7,2021 at 2:00 pm. Bill was born on Jan. 6, 1950 in Jackson MS to William J Brooks Sr & Mary Lucille Covington. Bill was born with some special needs so other members of the family lovingly assisted with his care. Those members included his Grandmother, Annie Maude Brooks & Aunt, Mary Alma Brooks. Bill recovered & because of the love and care he so generously received grew to be a strong & handsome young man. Bill attended Hardy Jr High School in Jackson, MS where he met his sweetheart, Rachel and after attending Central High School in Jackson, they later married and started a family in March of 1970. She was the apple of his eye & he became dedicated to her and his children & later grandchildren from that point on. Bill’s Grandfather, Burwick “BB” Brooks was a professional baseball player who started his baseball career while attending Mississippi College in the 1900’s. His name grew to fame when he struck out 24 of the 27 players while pitching against the University of Alabama. He pitched in the Georgia-Alabama League, the Cotton States League & the Southern Atlantic Association. He was also player-manager for the Jackson Senators before retiring baseball in 1924. Bill is preceded in death by his daughter Missy Brooks Kahl who died at the age of 24 unexpectedly. Bill never quite got over her death which made him pour more of himself into his family as if that was possible. Bill is survived by his wife Rachel of 51 years; 2 sons, Leslie Brooks of Richland and Michael Brooks of Pisgah. He leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren with 2 more great grands on the way in 2022. Bill was a hardworking, simple, dedicated & honest man in all he did. He was a corner stone in all our lives. He displayed his strong work ethics by showing what hard work & dedication could really mean and that a man’s word was his bond & that it meant something. His biggest pet peeve was: “don’t tell someone that you are going to do something if you are not going to do it”. Other famous statements he lived by were: “2 wrongs don’t make a right” “ you ok”? “It’ll be ok, Mama” followed by; well…..I love you & I’m here for you so let me know if you need anything”. Bill retired from Big Ten Tires & Accessories in 2018 after 45 years with the Company. His loyalty and dedication to work & family went far beyond the normal expectations. That was what he was all about. He was “always there” & ready to help anyone in need. Everyone that knew him knew that he could be depended on and was always there ready to help in any way he could. Bill was a proud Grandfather and he and Rachel loved being there for their grandchildren. Each day was a labor of love in meeting their individual needs and expectations. What a joy they have been for us as we watch them grow daily. Bill continues on now by doing his part from the portals of glory as Rachel tenderly holds & loves them through this difficult time here on earth. The Legacy Bill leaves behind compels us all to move forward until our time is come that we can all be together again. We love you & will miss you so much, Papaw. Your love carries us in our day to day journey through our lives. Your support & dedication along with the life lessons you taught us will be our guide. We know that you would have no other way. Special thanks to the staff at Baptist Hospital for the awesome care and support provided this past 2 years. Also, to Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland for helping the family & Bill transition to his place in Glory. You were a tremendous blessing to us all.
