Mr. Stephen Oliver Pittman

October 5, 1941 — February 12, 2019

Stephen Oliver Pittman, Sr., 77, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at his home in Ridgeland. Visitation will be 5-8pm Thursday, February 14, 2019 and 10am until the 11am memorial service Friday, February 15th all at Lakeshore Church in Byram. Steve passed into heaven on Feb. 12 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous 15 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Whitehaven, Tennessee, he moved to Jackson in 1964 to join his Tom and Sarah Pittman, his parents, in forming Mississippi Serum Distributors, a livestock veterinary supply company. He was the President and CEO of MS Serum and served the cattlemen and livestock community of Mississippi, parts of Louisiana and parts of Arkansas for 55 years. He twice served as Chairman of the Board of Durvet, a leader in animal health care industry and was a proud founding member. He also served many years on the advisory board for agriculture for Hinds Community College and Mississippi State Vet School and a member of the Mississippi Cattlemans Hall of Fame . As an avid outdoorsman, Steve loved deer, duck and elk hunting. Fishing was his true passion and he owned a fishing camp at Empire, Louisiana where he fished for red fish. He was a founding member of the Rebel Bass Club and Half Acre Deer Club. He also served his country proudly in the United States Marie Corp and was a 6 year member of the Maries Reserves. He was a very active member of Lakeshore Congregational Church, serving in many leadership roles including finance chair and chairman of the Vision committee for moving and building the church facility. His church family was near and dear to his heart. His true passion and love of his life was his family. He was considered the patriarch of the closeknit family. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Liz (Oliver) Pittman. His son, who has been in business with him for 26 years, Steve Jr, and his wife LeAnne. His daughter, Stephanie Remore and her husband Will. His five granddaughters: Erin, Anna, and Sarah Pittman and Haleigh and Lillie Beth Hall. He is also the loving brother to Tommye Jean Hurtt, Betty Pope (Joe), and Pam Alverson. Not to mention countless nieces and nephews, as well as, grand nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. He is proceeded in death by his parents Thomas and Sarah Pittman, his brother in laws, Jimmie Alverson, Monk Landers and J T Hurtt. In lieu of flowers, family is asking for remembrances be made to Lakeshore Congregational Church, 6880 S Siwell Road, Byram, MS 39232.
