Mrs. Shirley Jean Webb

April 3, 1944 — November 18, 2019

Shirley Barnett Webb, 75, died Monday, November 18, 2019 at her home in Florence. A Memorial Service will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Florence on Tuesday, December 3rd at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Shirley was born April 23, 1944 in Columbia, MS, and raised in Jackson. She graduated from Central High School in 1962, then she attended Mississippi College for Women, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Shirley spent her career in early childhood education and served as the kindergarten director for First Baptist Church of Florence. She was also a first-grade teaching assistant at Florence Elementary School. Shirley was an accomplished seamstress and had a love for sewing and needle arts. She even started a sewing business dedicated to her daughter, called Robin’s Roost. She used her special talents, along with her friend, Regina Bond, to help many young women across the southeast develop their public speaking and presentation skills on the rodeo queen circuit. Shirley married William W. “Billy” Webb on June 11, 1965. Together, they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Robin, on October 8, 1973. Billy has often said that spending the last 54 years with Shirley is the greatest love story that he has ever known. Shirley was the last living survivor in her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Ola V. Long Barnett; brother, Ralph Edwin Barnett; and sisters, Martha Ann Barnett Thompson and Rose Marie Barnett Pack. Along with her husband, Billy and their daughter, Robin, Shirley is survived by her grandson, Webb Harrison; and her son-in-law, Kevin Harrison; and a host of nieces and nephews. The Webb family extends their sincere thanks to the staff of University of Mississippi Medical Center ENT oncology team, Dr. Jumin Sunde, the nursing staff at the UMMC SICU, Wiser Hospital for Women 4th floor, and Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland. Memorials may be made in her honor to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 2194 White Road, Florence, MS, 39073.
