Mrs. Ruth Byrd Davis

Mrs. Ruth Christine Byrd Davis, 89 passed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at her daughter’s home in Stratford, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, May 21st from 5-8 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at Gatesville Baptist Church in Crystal Springs, MS with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Gatesville Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Davis was born in Shivers, MS to Rev. Oscar and Bessie Byrd. She was a member of Gatesville Baptist Church, where she served as church pianist for many years. She also attended Antioch Baptist Church in the Old Pearl Community. She enjoyed fishing and was an excellent cook. She was well-known for her delicious chicken pie. She loved her family, and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandson. Along with her parents, Mrs. Davis was reunited with her husband of 57 years, John Cicero Davis; her sister, Doris Breihan; and her brother, David Byrd. She is survived by her children, John Michael Davis of Moody, AL, David (Janice) Davis of Grenada, MS, and Nancy (Mike) Sykes of Stratford, OK; her sister, Pauline Laird of Florence; her grandchildren, Daniel Sykes, Laura (Todd) Menges; and Taylor Davis; and her only great grandchild, Luke Menges.
