Mrs. Ragan Pettigrew Jordan

January 6, 1975 — May 31, 2021

Ragan Pettigrew Jordan passed away Monday, May 31, 2021 at her home in Braxton. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, June 4th from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. at New Covenant Church in Harrisville. A graveside service will follow at New Covenant Cemetery. Ragan Leigh Pettigrew was born to Ruby Lee Pettigrew and James Russell Pettigrew on January 6, 1975. She graduated from Hinds Community College. She has two sons, Jonathan Adam Moore (1993) (spouse/partner Madison Lane Moore) and James Braden Wadsworth Olney (1999) (spouse/partner Hailey Grace Woods) and two granddaughters, Elliott Raine Moore (2020) and Issabel Maive Olney (2020). She lived and was under the care of her loving father at the time of her death. She is preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Lee Pettigrew, stepmother, Gloria Lanette Pettigrew and by her maternal and paternal grandparents. Ragan is survived by her father, two sons, two granddaughters, siblings Rusty Pettigrew, Sherrie Garlitz, and Neil Pettigrew, as well as countless cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and loving friends. Ragan loved to love, and she loved her family above all. She went by many names: Ragan, sissy, Aunt Ragan, sister, daughter, mom, and most recently Grams. Though Ragan’s life took many unexpected roads, both joyful and painful, her love and faith in the Lord never wavered. Ragan was enamored with butterflies, so much so that she had a few of them tattooed on her body. I believe she loved butterflies because they are creatures of beauty; beauty that occurs after transformation. What the cocooned caterpillar endures to reach this beauty is itself a miracle orchestrated by God. Ragan was no different. She endured suffering, but with an unwavering hope that one day—just like a butterfly—she too would be transformed and made new by her Creator. We rejoice that now she is.
