Mr. Hal C. Moss Jr.

Hal C. Moss Jr. died on Thursday, August 12, 2021. A private family memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.. The service will be available for viewing via livestream on the Chancellor Funeral Home Facebook page. The first of two children, he was born December 29, 1940 in Laurel, MS to the late Hal C. Moss Sr. and Clara Belle Moss. Hal is survived by his soul mate and best friend, Elaine Moss; daughter, Sherry Shannon; son, Hal Moss III (Sue); step-daughter, Mercy Bailey (Scott); brother, John (Jenny); granddaughters, Casey (Mike) and Carson; grandsons, Chase Davis (Samantha) and Will Davis (Shannon); and great-grandsons, Hal, Phillip, and Jack. Retiring from BellSouth in 1991 gave Hal and Elaine time to travel and spend time enjoying their grandchildren. Hal was an avid golfer and made close and endearing friendships. He also had a love of gardening, daylilies in particular. He would spend hours digging holes and filling them up. Life was full and blessed. He graduated from Soso MS High School and served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years following graduation. He then earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Mississippi where he was a founding member and first President of the Mississippi Beta chapter of Tau Beta Pi (national engineering honor society). He was a member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers). He was also a member of Mensa International. He was employed by South Central Bell following graduation and held managerial positions in Tupelo, Natchez, and Jackson before his retirement as Operations Manager-Switched Services in Jackson in 1991. During this period, he was a member of the Jackson Jaycees, Lions Club International, and Rotary International. He received a direct commission into the USNR-CEC (Seabees) in 1970 and served in the active and inactive Naval Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant until 1982. He was a member of Wynndale Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers and The Loyal Order of Moose. The family requests that memorials be made to Gideons International, Byram Camp.
