Mr. Finch was born on April 24, 1926, in Mendenhall, Mississippi to the late N.C. Finch and Gertrude Brown Finch. Later in his childhood, he and his family moved to Jackson, MS. Mr. Finch has always been a hard worker, having a paper route as a child and selling peanuts for many years on the street corners of Jackson. He graduated from Forest Hill High School. After joining the U.S. Navy, he served his country in World War II. He was part of the Battles of Okinawa, Leyte, and Peleiu. He was a stock holder/part owner of United Builders Supply, serving as President of the company for several years. As a home builder and business owner, he developed six subdivisions, built 600 homes, 425 lots, and named 32 streets in Jackson. In his spare time, he enjoyed raising Black Angus cows and chinchillas and loved gardening. One memorable time in Mr. Finch’s life was when he raised Shelton ponies and won the national Championship with his prize pony, Captain Warren. He loved working in his yard and spent many hours on his zero turn lawnmower. Years before his health declined, he and his son enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf together. He also loved to pay bingo with his daughter, Martha. Mr. Finch was married to the late Evelyn Joyce Whiddon Finch for 41 years and also to the late Peggy Bryant Finch for 24 years. Mr. Finch is preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Gail Finch Harris; his sister, Dorothy Finch Burke of Alabama; and his brother, Lt. Commander Charles Noble Finch, Sr. of Florida. He is survived by his son, David Fonzo Finch, Jr. and his wife, Bunny; his daughter, Martha Joyce Finch Stogner and her husband, Tommy; his sister, Jenny Finch Escudero of Florida; six grandchildren: Cortney McDonald and her husband, Matt; Carrie Walker and her husband, Kelley; Dee Horton and her husband, Jeff; Paul Harris and his wife, Eileen; Michael Stogner, and Nicole Stogner; and eleven great grandchildren: Avery, Zach, Millie, and Reese McDonald; Samantha and Lexie Walker; Evie, Jake, and Walter Horton; and Trey and Jackson Harris.
