Mrs. Eula Belle West Barron

November 22, 1923 — May 10, 2021

Belle Barron, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 10, 2021. She was a loving wife to her husband, Thomas Wilson “T.W.” Barron for 39 years, before his passing in 1982. She deeply loved and cherished her daughter, Mitzi, before her passing in 2019. Belle was born to the late John Rivers West and Kate Rebecca Etheridge West on November 22, 1923 in Leland, MS, the eldest of seven children. After graduating from Drew High School in 1940 and Sunflower Junior College in 1942, Belle came to Jackson to go into Nurses’ Training. It was there that she met and married T.W. in 1943. She taught several years at Florence Elementary School, then returned to her nursing career, retiring after 33 years from the Mississippi Asthma and Allergy Clinic in Jackson in 1985. She was an active member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church of Florence after her marriage to T.W., teaching Sunday School and Training Union classes until her health failed, after 73 years, in 2016. As part of her teaching, she’d type the lessons for the shut-ins who could not hear and record them for those who could not see, then, visit them every Thursday. Belle loved her church and church family, being with family and friends, reading, working in her yard, taking care of people, attending Bible study classes at Park Place in Pearl, and especially being a mom and grand mom. She faithfully kept a daily journal and never forgot to send cards in recognition of people’s special occasions. The family would like to thank the staff at Villa South Assisted Living Facility in Florence for their compassion and loving care as well as the great Kare in Home Hospice team who attended her. Along with her parents, husband, and daughter, Belle was preceded in death by siblings, Quincy West (L. Nell), Bobby West (A. Nell), Ted West (Martha), Don West (Betty), and Sadie West Smith (Don). She is survived by sisters, Betty Jane West Dill (Theron) of Laurel and Maxine Wilson Churchwell (Johnnie) of Florence; son-in-law, Charles “Buddy” Parkes of Sheffield, AL; granddaughters, Amelia Parkes and Katelyn Parkes Partridge; and great granddaughter, Riley Partridge; along with many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. Visitation will be at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence on Friday, May 14th from 1:00 -3:00 p.m. with a service in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will follow at Mountain Creek Cemetery. The family ask that all attending wear mask and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mountain Creek Baptist Church building fund, P.O. Box 94, Florence, MS 39073.
