Mrs. Betty Burchfield

January 26, 1930 — March 7, 2022

Betty Burchfield was born to the late Clara Annette Watts and William Earl Tabor, II, on January 26, 1930 in Winston County, Mississippi and made her journey home to heaven on March 8, 2022. She immersed herself in her Christian faith from a very early age and loved her large family and country farm. She graduated from Lobutcha High School where she was an academic scholar and a basketball player. Betty was blessed with a large and loving family. Being raised with three brothers and four sisters, there was never a dull moment around their house. Both of her parents have gone on to their heavenly home, along with two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her brother, Larry Tabor, and her sister, Mary Ann Sessions. On January 24, 1948, Betty married Wilbon Haward “Bill” Cummins, and they had three children. Her oldest daughter, Shirley Ann Hall, preceded her in death and welcomed her mother home to heaven. Betty is survived by her daughter, Jan Lemon, and her son, Troy Cummins. Betty is survived by eight grandchildren: Sabrina Cline, Jessica Wilkinson, DeAnn Wright, Bondee Bower, Brandee Bridges, Jake Lemon, Morgan Cummins, and Joshua Cummins. In addition, she is survived by thirteen great grandchildren: Julia Wright, Anna Wright, Belle Grace Wilkinson, Jaylen Bridges, Noble Wilkinson, Baylee Bridges, Parker Cummins, Brant Bower, Hunter Bower, Jordan Cline, Aubrey Lemon, Nixon Lemon and Lawson Cline. After the death of her husband, Bill Cummins, Betty married a long-time friend and neighbor, Sam Morris. Sam was loved and respected by the entire family and was missed greatly when he died. She was very blessed to once again find love and married her high-school sweetheart, Bill Burchfield, in 2003. He was a loving and kind man, who has also preceded her in death. Betty always had a heart for nursing, and she loved caring for others. She graduated from Greenville Nursing School and Hinds Community College Nursing School. Betty worked for St. Dominic Hospital for sixteen years and served as House Supervisor for six of those years. She finished her career at the Veterans Hospital, allowing her service to be a blessing to all. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Betty. She loved a quiet evening on the porch talking with friends and neighbors. She was known throughout the community as a caregiver to all and shared her many talents with others. Betty’s quilts and paintings were true treasures and will be enjoyed for many generations to come. Like her many beloved and carefully-crafted quilts, Betty Burchfield’s life was unique and stunning--carefully planned, lovingly made, and beautifully lived. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, March 12th from 9:00 am until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow at Richland City Cemetery in Richland.
