Mrs. Ruth McNair Watkins

Ruth McNair Watkins passed away October 29, 2014. She was born on February 24, 1926 to Baker and Ruby McNair in Linwood near Philadelphia, Mississippi. Ruth graduated from Linwood High School in Neshoba County, Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi, and from the Meridian Community College School of Nursing in Meridian, Mississippi. She retired from Central Mississippi Medical Center after working there for more than 27 years. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers (Gaines McNair, Cecil McNair, Adolph McNair, Frank McNair, Malcolm McNair and Edward McNair) and three sisters (Gladys Johnson, Sarah Upchurch and Mary Errington). She is survived by her son, Philip Bonner (Pamela) and two grandsons Benjamin and Matthew Bonner, all of Harahan, Louisiana. She is also survived by one sister, Esther Lott, of Raymond, Mississippi, and by a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Ruth was a member of Southside Assembly of God Church for many years. She loved her Lord and loved helping people. When she was not working, she could often be found helping friends or relatives who were sick or in need. She also loved short term medical mission trips. She went on sixteen medical mission trips with other nurses and doctors to share Jesus and relieve pain. She brought salvation and healing to Nicaragua, Peru, Brazil, El Salvador, Venezuela, Ecuador, Mexico, Chile Honduras, Romania, West Africa, South Africa, and Viet Nam. Ruth was a good and faithful servant of her Lord and Savior. She responded to the words of Matthew 25, bringing comfort and healing to many in His name. Visitation will be at Chancellor Funeral Home, 7225 South Siwell Road, Byram, MS on Friday, October 31, from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held at Southside Assembly of God, 665 Raymond Road, Jackson, MS, Saturday, November 1, at 10:00am. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery, Linwood, MS at 3:00pm.
