Mrs. Patty Louise Smith

Patty Sutherland Smith, a native of Jackson, MS, died on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at her home in Raymond, MS. She battled Ovarian Cancer for 14 months before she went home to be with the Lord. She was 53 years old. Patty was a loyal and dedicated pastor’s wife (though she could never play the piano!). She served alongside her husband in local church ministry for their 32 years of marriage. She worked in the preschool, taught Sunday School, served on the Hostess Committee, volunteered at local missions, and prayed for her husband every Sunday morning before he stood to proclaim God’s Word. Her infectious joy and warm smile was evident that her service to Christ was a personal blessing and an integral part of her life. Besides Jesus and the church, she loved her children and her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. There was nothing that she wouldn't do to accommodate the needs of her kids or her pets! She loved to camp, swim, kayak, bike, and run Half-Marathons with her husband. Anything that took place outside, she was up for it! She attended First Presbyterian Elementary in Jackson and then moved over to Jackson Prep where she graduated in 1980, and then attended Mississippi State University. She attributed her spiritual formations as a child to First Presbyterian Elementary and Camp Desoto. Camp Desoto is an all-girls christian camp in Mentone, AL. And in lieu of flowers, she suggested donations be made in her memory to “Wynndale Baptist Church-Patty’s Spiritual Formations” account. Wynndale BC church is in Terry, MS and is where she served Jesus until the surgeries and chemo took their toll and she had to give up her positions of ministry. She wanted these memorial gifts to be used as some type of financial assistance to boys and girls attending Wynndale Wonder Preschool, First Pres. Elementary, and Camp Desoto. She believed that children who attended these christian schools or camp, would be better equipped to serve Jesus as they grew older. Patty’s memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 27th, at 11AM at Wynndale Baptist Church in Terry, MS. And on the day before the memorial service, a wake/visitation will be held for family and friends at the same location. The wake begins at 5pm and concludes at 7pm. Patty is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. C.G. Sutherland of Jackson, MS. She is survived by Jerry, her husband and best friend for 32 years. Their three children, Casey Smith (Raymond), Graham Smith (Bolton), and Leslie Smith (Chattanooga, TN). She is also survived by her siblings Cathy Sumrall (Robert) of Jackson, MS, Sandy Bailey (Eric) of Jupiter, FL, Pam Duncan (Cliff) of Brandon, MS and Bruce Sutherland of Brandon.
