Mr. Donald “Don” Burney, 64, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017 at his home in Florence. Visitation was held Friday, December 15th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with the service following at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Burial was on Saturday, December 16th at 1:00 p.m. at the State Line Cemetery, Stateline, MS. Mr. Burney was born April 18, 1953 in Waynesboro, MS. He moved to Florence in 1977 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Richland. Don was also a Mason. He spent the majority of his career as a tool pusher in the oil field industry. After retiring from the oil field, he continued to work in the utilities industry. Don loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Indoors, Don kept busy tinkering with, and building guns. Don loved spending time at the family land, “The Old Place” and watching old black and white westerns. Mr. Burney is preceded in death by his father George Dewey Burney, Jr. He is survived by his mother, Alva Burney of Richland; sons, Brian (Amy) Burney of Florence and Billy (Holly) Burney of Brandon; brother, Dana (Linda) Burney of Jackson; and four grandchildren, Gannon, Garrett, Ross and Macy.
