Mrs. Chesta Martin Hughes, 95, passed away Monday, February 8, 2016 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service Saturday, February 13th at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow in Calvary Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mize, MS. Mrs. Hughes loved her family very much. She was an avid fisherman who loved flowers, gardening, reading her Bible, working crossword puzzles and was an excellent cook. She and her husband had traveled extensively across the United States. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Florence and loved her church family. She lived in Cleary Heights for many years. Mrs. Hughes is preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Mae Martin; her husband, Lavelle Hughes; sisters, Myrtle Johnson, Birda Layton, Susie Bryant, and Wilma Sullivan. She is survived by her son, Michael (Rae) Hughes of Florence; daughter, Bobbie (Ray) Butler of Madison; sister, Dot (L.D.) McCallum; 3 grandchildren, Angela (Christopher) Pullen, Christopher Hughes, and Michelle (Matt) Yarborough; step granddaughter, Suzanne (Allan) Butler Durfey; 10 great grandchildren, Michael Tattrie, Kirkpatrick, Andrew, Benjamin, Brooke, Katherine, Hanna, Sarah Elizabeth, and Samuel Yarborough; step great grandson, Will Tanner; special family friend, Gail Lamb Hughes, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Florence.
