Mr. Alfred "Al" Richburg

September 5, 1929 — March 19, 2015

Alfred Richburg, Sr., 85, of Brandon, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015, after battling Alzheimer’s. Al served four years in the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. He was a supervisor for the Colony Shirt Company in Gulfport, Mississippi, where he met the love of his life, Fay Murphy. In 1957 he graduated from the Mississippi Highway Patrol School. Al moved his way up the ranks from patrolman to Lieutenant Colonel of the Mississippi Highway Patrol. He was president of the Mississippi Highway Patrol Officers Association in 1979. Al also served in various capacities for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), including secretary-treasurer in 1979 and president in 1983. He retired from the Mississippi Highway Patrol in 1986. He was a member of Siwell Road Church of Christ and had been attending Pinelake Church. Al was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Helen Fay Murphy Richburg. He is survived by daughter Debby Corkern and husband Don; daughter Kathy Richburg; son Al Richburg, Jr. and wife Sharon; and daughter Suzanna Session and husband Norman. His grandchildren include Donny and Chassity Corkern, Doug and Heather Corkern, Ricky and Mandi Huff, Austin Richburg, Anna Richburg, Paxton Session, and Sloan Session. His great grandchildren include Charlyte Scarf, Joseph Corkern, John Corkern, Skylar Duncan, Dylan Corkern, Jaydin Huff, and Jack Corkern. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry Richburg and Nathan Richburg. The family wishes to thank Drs. Kimberly Tarver and Mark Meeks of the UMC Mind Center and Dr. Jon Beall of Mississippi Baptist Medical Center for their compassionate care given to our father. We also want to thank our family, friends, and churches for all of their love, support, and prayers during Dad’s illness. Visitation will be from 2-4 PM at Chancellor Funeral Home on Highway 49 in Florence, with services beginning at 4 PM on Sunday, March 22nd. Graveside services will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport, Mississippi, on Monday, March 23rd at 11 AM . Memorials may be made to the UMMC Mind Clinic in Jackson, Mississippi, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
